Matrix (couldn't find a Matrix icon so here's Element)

Matrix is generally okay, since they support E2EE, open-source, partial support for emojis, video calls (only on Element tho..), and it's quite stable sometimes.

Even though, I still believe if you do care of your privacy, if you LOVE tech-savvy stuff, then use this, but sometimes you'll regret it, because I love when devices doesn't verify randomly, when I can't send media without being it so slow, when you are falling into the famous encryption not being able to decrypt SIMPLE MESSAGES. But hey. It's okay. It happens... Sometimes. Whatever.

The company that made Matrix are quite dogshit thought, because they paywall their own base server they use (Synpnase), insist on using their own client/server, and includes a closed-source addon (opt-out) that makes "your contacts easier to access". Strange. But if you don't want to be involved in that, don't use the matrix.org homeserver. And possibly not Element. But if you're lazy then it'll cause no harm.

Matrix is decentralized, so it's really a huge improvement, and lot of clients are being worked on, really neat honestly!

Basically, proprietary dogshit. Ads, paywalls, microtransactions, creepy history, pedos, doxxing, money laundering... Their community is as retarded as the community behind this PTSD they gave me.

Remember OpenFeint? This thing was here right before Discord and made by our "beloved" Citron. It was a rushed thing that took all your personal infos and was made to be sold out to another company. And it worked, flawlessly. People got trolled. And everyone on Discord doesn't know they are getting trolled right now, which is problematic. Sure they changed CEO, but that's still terrible.

Aswell, Discord collects your data without hunger, and send them up to the big big boy Tencent, so Bing Chilling might know that you're simping over that E-girl chick right there. Unfortunately he won't tell you, he's cheeky.

Mobile app, clunky, full of ads, eats even more RAM than Chromium our friend and takes even more cache than storage you have on your phone. Desktop app? Same thing, can't run on a low-end PC smoothly, like at all. Their code is even more unoptimized than my brain... Yeah and it's gonna get worse overtime.

Discord also breached multiple times the GDPR in a row! Perfect example. Yeah Discord does not gives a shit, especially about you. Revolt

Was fine for a moment until I got PTSD of it. Thanks Discord, your shoutout is really appreciated. No really tho, it really fucking looks like Discord, I wonder, where's the DMCA at?

Fine, open-source, but barely finished after years of developing. It looks like Spacebar, nothing works flawlessly. There's alot of missing features. I've been on Revolt since 3 years and nothing got a change. Oh yeah, new beta client, woow. Gradient roles?? Wooow. Okay whatever.

Mind why I thought so much of Discord? Not only it's silly suspicious front-end, but because there are still pedos roaming around. This is insane. Well pedos got me this time. Wow!

Generally moderators on Revolt (which, remember, are volunteers) seems pretty numb and strict. At least it's not clankers just like on Discord, but if you hate moderation, delete your account and never come back, oh boy oh boy. Looks like they hate their wife so fucking much that they reject the fault in your ass that tried to do something cool with their API.

You can find some cool people... If yer got luck. It's cool people (0.003% chance legendary fr), or absolute deadbrain masters. Their servers on Discovery are absolute dogshit, there's no general server instead "Solace" which when it began was apparently great BUT because it was the most active server on the discovery, the platform moderators forced them to stop being lenient, now it's a North Korea RP. Again moderators are on it. There's also "wokeboy dungeon" that looked too braindead for me, and then really random stuff like anime servers, deutsch servers, literally a bunch of them with alot of subjects!... But they're barely active. So you gotta wait hours before getting a response. Even days if I'm realistic.

Tried to do mine and one week later my selfbot got "suspended"!!! But why?? Because now they changed their policy saying that selfbots are allowed only if their owner can interact with it. My man what the fuck? What is my self-bot gonna do with me only? Pay my taxes? Don't touch at my fucking clanker next time.

Final point, having a degoogled phone forces you to use their web application, you can try installing the version on Play Store, but it'll complain not having Google Play Services and closes the app... The funny thing is that Discord works even without Google Play Services, you don't get notifications, but it still fucking works.

Basically, Revolt is just like VRChat. Make a private server with your friends, have really alot of fun, join public server, get burned at the stake, find pedos and people with "anger issues" (they are gonna insult your parents and they are humanly impossible to talk with), and finally moderators warning you for saying "sex", or pasting like, a message. Because it's spamming. At this point use a old build of Fosscord and self-host it yourself.

Update : As more and more I've been involved into it, I've discovered that basically, it's a Discord clone with a bunch of nerdy ""FOSS"" random teenagers as owner/moderators and a load of random drama... Don't get fooled by some random "professional" pages, it's just some random website made by random people.
Also, they do government requests. That's disgusting. Yep, Discord clone.

IRC

...Huh.

IRC is quite prehistoric. But it really, really gets the job done if you want something super simple. Still at this day, it's widely used.

I love installing distros like Mint and Puppy and being greeted by HexChat (a IRC Client that was pre-installed), I kept going in the default chat and saying like "Haiii!! :3" like I've just installed my distro, and people are gonna welcome me into it. It's heartwarming.

The downsides of IRC... Are... Uh oh. Well, no calls, no video calls, no profile pictures, no markdown, no profiles, no custom emojis, no encryption, no microtransactions, just a username and that's it. XMPP is literally the same thing but with these addons (instead the microtransactions cough Discord cough).

But else, the community is quite gentle, I never seen a single spam in IRC, and the thing is that you chat on a SINGLE server, it's decentralized but not really decentralized.
The concept is, you can host your own server, sure, but you need to be on the SAME server to communicate. Awkward, but in the oldie days we didn't really cared about that, corporations were less evil.

Honestly... It could have got a B or even a A. Because I keep shitposting, but no medias. You gotta upload to a third-party (or whatever even your self-host) and send the link where your image is hosted. At least you can post links lmfao.

Facebook Messenger

It's perturbating to see Messenger being HIGHER than Revolt. How weird. Even for me.

Messenger, for some fucking reason, is stable, and straight to the point. There are still problems, it's why it's in D.

First... You know me... Lizardberg, requires a Facebook account, ain't that great, american spy, Facebook only asks PERSONAL data, you can't login using your username or a anonymous identity, it's the big dissapointement of the app and why it got such a rank -- Yet... It's really good for Messenger ngl?

Second, you can get random porn invites to groups. Random people can add you to their group afaik. lmao miau. Oh and the third one, stories, I don't like that mate, leave me alone.

But else... The app seems a bit optimized, it works on old ass nuggets... It's, wow. Okay. It's not that much really, but seeing how companies are doing insane amount of software flop, this is really a must to follow. It even got E2EE?? LIKE HOW?? WHY??

The app is a awesome example, the Facebook stuff thingy, it's not.

What type of drugs are you on to use this?

I've saw hundred of thousand of people use this shit. I tried this once, it barely works on a nugget, it explicitely requires your camera, and there's straight up porn and a doomscrolling feature.
I literally asked every fucking one, "Hey mate, why do you use Snapchat tho?", 97% of their answers were "It's cool!", but no elaboration. Snapchat is a literal illusion. I bet it's because the pre-integrated AI looks just like a user so their users can have a AI girlfriend without being judged. Fucking wow.

These chats tend to be straight collected and sold to third-parties. Most often they are barely secure (a little hijack and a random person can see your messages), and they really lack of features and stability.
